Amit Shah to Present Two J&K Bills in Rajya Sabha During the Winter Session of Parliament Today

On the third day of the Winter Session of Parliament, the Lok Sabha successfully passed the J&K Reservation and Reorganisation Bills. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce and seek consideration and passage of these Bills in the Rajya Sabha today.

Amit Shah to Present Two J&K Bills in Rajya Sabha During the Winter Session of Parliament Today

Parliament Winter Session : On the fourth day of the Winter Session of Parliament, Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to present the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha for consideration and passage. Both bills had been successfully passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 proposes amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, while the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 aims to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

During the day’s discussions, the Rajya Sabha will continue the debate on the “Economic Situation in the country,” initiated by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien on December 5.

In addition, BJP MPs Anil Jain and Neeraj Shekhar are slated to present the 249th and 250th reports (in English and Hindi) of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs in the Rajya Sabha. BJP MP Chhedi Paswan is scheduled to present the Statements of the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (2023-24).

A recap of Day 3 highlights The successful passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Lok Sabha. During the debate, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attributed Article 370 as the root cause of terrorism and drew attention to the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir issue, leading to a walkout by Opposition leaders in the Lower House. Amit Shah expressed satisfaction that no member opposed the essence of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2023 during the debate.
