Avalanche likely in 12 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, disaster management issues warning for next 24 hours

The Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority on Thursday issued an avalanche warning for 12 districts including Anantnag, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Doda, Rajouri and Poonch for the next 24 hours. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) said it was an avalanche of 'medium danger' level.

Srinagar: Amid inclement weather, the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority on Thursday issued an avalanche warning in twelve districts for the next 24 hours. Medium alert has been issued for Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Kulgam, Doda, Kishtwar and Poonch districts above 2000 to 2500 metres.

GNS reported that JKDMA issued a ‘Medium Level’ warning above 2000 to 2500 metres over Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Kulgam, Doda, Kishtwar and Poonch districts.

The authority also expressed the possibility of ‘low level’ avalanches above 2000 to 2500 meters in Reasi, Rajouri and Ramban districts. People living in these areas have been advised to exercise caution and avoid avalanche prone areas. Let us inform that there has been heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir in the past.

The SDMA said the locals living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing into avalanche-prone areas for safety purposes.
