Bengaluru: 65-year-old retired military soldier opens fire on man over trivial issue, detained

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a retired Indian Army Naik has been detained by the police for opening fire on a man allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday. The police have arrested the accused and a case has been registered at Gangammana Gudi Police Station in the city.

Around 1 am on Tuesday, a 65-year-old accused Parashuram visited a 31-year-old Suraj’s residence in Abbigere. Suraj stopped Parashuram from entering his office as the latter used to frequently visit their residence under the influence of alcohol and quarrel with them.

To avoid the dispute, Suraj stopped Parashuram at the gate and asked him to return to his house. This led to a heated altercation between the two. The two men started shouting forcing neighbours to come out of their houses.

In a fit of rage, Parashuram suddenly pointed his licenced revolver at Suraj. Sensing trouble, Suraj ran. Threatening to kill him, Parashuram opened fire, luckily the bullet misfired and hit a wall. The neighbours came out and calmed down Parashuram. Meanwhile, Suraj informed the police. The Gangammana Gudi Police visited the spot, arrested Parashuram and seized the revolver.

After Suraj filed an official complaint, the police filed an FIR against Parashuram under the Arms Act and IPC section 307 (attempt to murder).

Victim in his complaint said that Parashuram had known his family for the past few years. Parashuram stayed alone in Abbigere as his family lives separately. The complainant claimed that Parashuram used to visit their house frequently under the influence of alcohol and quarrelled over trivial issues.
