Karnataka,Bengaluru: In a troubling incident in Bengaluru, two teenagers studying in Class 10 have been apprehended by the city police for extorting gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh from a fellow classmate. The duo, along with four adult accomplices, orchestrated the extortion scheme, leading to their arrest.
The victim’s father raised the alarm about the missing gold ornaments from their home approximately two weeks ago, prompting him to contact the RR Nagar police. He disclosed that his son, who had developed a habit of playing online games, was coerced and threatened by two classmates into stealing gold from their residence to meet their demands.
Initially, the perpetrators demanded money from the victim, but upon his inability to comply, they compelled him to pilfer gold ornaments instead. The theft went unnoticed until the family discovered the missing items.
In a significant breakthrough, the police have recovered 300 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 23 lakh in cash, proceeds from the sale of an additional 400 grams of gold. However, a diamond necklace remains unrecovered. The duo, aided by one of the adult associates with connections to a gold shop in Kengeri, facilitated the sale of the extorted items.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda has issued a stern warning to parents, urging them to monitor their children’s mobile phone activities closely. He emphasized the potential dangers of online gaming addiction, cautioning against its detrimental effects.
