Big setback for Deputy-CM Sisodia as Centre gives sanction to prosecute Delhi Deputy CM in alleged snooping case

New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is facing an ED and CBI investigation in the case of alleged corruption in the new excise policy, seems to be in trouble. Now another case will be prosecuted against him. The Union Home Ministry has approved prosecution of Manish Sisodia under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the ‘Feedback Unit’ alleged snooping case.

The CBI had sought permission from the Lt. Governor to file a case against Manish Sisodia and others for further investigation into the alleged spying of opposition parties and leaders through the Feedback Unit. The file containing the CBI’s request was sent by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to the Union Home Ministry and the President.

Now the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given permission to the CBI to file a case against the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and others in the snooping case. In the year 2015, the Delhi government had allegedly formed a ‘Feedback Unit’ (FBU) to strengthen the vigilance department. A preliminary investigation by the CBI on a complaint by the then secretary of the Vigilance Department claimed that the FBU collected political intelligence, apart from departments and ministries.

The matter was reported to the CBI in 2016 by S Meena, the then Deputy Secretary of the Vigilance Department, after which the central agency started its investigation. Investigation revealed that retired officers were also appointed in the FBU. Since the Services Department is with the Lieutenant Governor, the CBI claims that the recruitment for the Feedback Unit was done without bringing it to the notice of the LG. In the preliminary investigation of the CBI, it has also come to the fore that irregularities were done from the creation of the FBU to its operation as well as the funds.
