Chhattisgarh: On Friday, an official said that a cop form Madhya Pradesh, who was on poll duty, killed himself with his service weapon in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh.
Official said that the reason as to why the police personnel took this extreme step is not known as of now. Gariaband falls in the Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency where polling is underway in the second phase of the general elections.
After the incident, responsible authorities are analysing the situation and taking appropriate action. A police official said that the incident happened around 9.30 am at a government school in Kudedadar village under Piparchhedi police station limits where security personnel on poll duty have been stationed.
The deceased was identified as Head Constable Jiyalal Pawar. Official said head Constable Jiyalal Pawar allegedly shot himself with his service rifle in a room at the school. In phase 2, polling is taking place in three seats in the state including Kanker, Mahasamund, Rajnandgaon.
The official said that he was in the reserve team and was not deployed for active poll work. He aaded that Pawar belonged to Batallion no. 34 of the MP Special Armed Force.
Soon after receiving information about this incident a police team reached the spot and shifted the body for the postmortem. Official said that no suicide note was found at the spot. He added that a probe was underway.
