Ranchi: A bird flu outbreak in Ranchi has ignited authorities to quarantine two doctors and six staff members from the Regional Poultry Farm located in Hotwar. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha underscored the swift response to the Ranchi bird flu outbreak, stating that surveys are being conducted to assess the extent of the infection. Various departments, including the District Animal Husbandry Office, Municipal Corporation, Police, and Magistrate, have collaborated to form a rapid response team for containment efforts.

The Directorate of Animal Husbandry in Ranchi has set up a Rapid Response Team (RRT) which has been tasked with culling infected chickens and disinfecting the affected areas in the area around Hotwar, where the bird flu outbreak was detected in Ranchi. .

Dr. Santosh Kumar, a meat technologist at the Regional Poultry Farm, outlined the measures being taken, including the disposal of all chickens and eggs within a one-kilometer radius. Farmers and shopkeepers have been instructed to refrain from introducing outside poultry into the area until negative reports are received.

After the District Collector’s stern orders, approximately 1745 chickens, 450 ducks, and 1697 eggs have been disposed of to mitigate the spread of the Highly Pathogenic Asian Avian Influenza (H5N1) Virus.
