Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh files police case after his Deepfake video goes viral

New Delhi: On Monday, Bollywood Actor Ranveer Singh has filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai Police over a widely-circulated deepfake video. The viral AI-generated video of the actor featured him voicing his political views while endorsing a party.

In the deepfake, Ranveer Singh was seen criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi over unemployment and inflation. The viral video of Ranveer Singh was from his recent visit to Varanasi. The audio in the clip was AI-enabled.

According to the latest developments in the matter, Ranveer Singh’s official spokesperson confirmed that the actor has filed a police complaint and the FIR has been lodged for further investigation by Cyber Crime Cell.

The official spokesperson said, “Yes, we have filed a police complaint and an FIR has been registered against the handle which was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Ranveer Singh.”

He added,”In fact, before the first phase of voting in the Lok Sabha, a video of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh went viral in which he was allegedly targeting PM Modi. But this video turned out to be deepfake and was made using voice cloning.”

In the original video, Ranveer Singh was sharing his experience in Varanasi and was explaining the aim of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to connect people with their heritage. In the viral video, Ranveer Singh was seen saying, “Modi ji’s aim was to celebrate our sad life and fear, our unemployment, our inflation.

It added,”Because India is now moving towards the era of injustice. We are moving at such a speed… but we should not forget to demand our development and justice. So think and vote.” After this, the tagline of Congress’s campaigning has been added, ‘Those who care about the country will vote for justice. Vote for justice, vote for Congress.

Earlier, Actor Aamir Khan also filed an FIR against an unknown person with the Mumbai Police in connection with a deepfake video. Calling the video “fake”, the 59-year-old actor had also lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai Police.

It has been reported that it was an AI-generated video of the actor from the time of ‘Satyameva Jayate’, a show he hosted almost a decade back. Based on the complaint given by Khan’s office, an FIR was registered at Khar police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act.

In a statement, a spokesperson of the actor had said ,”We are concerned about the recent viral video which alleges that Aamir Khan is favouring a particular political party. We would like to clarify that this is a fake video and is completely untrue.”
