Businesswoman arrested for stalking, kidnapping TV anchor to marry him in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a businesswoman who allegedly stalked and later kidnapped a TV music channel anchor, with the intention of marrying him, was arrested in Hyderabad, police said on Friday. The woman, recognised as a 31-year-old digital marketing business owner, became infatuated with the anchor after seeing his photos on a matrimony website. The woman had allegedly installed a tracking device on the TV anchor’s car to stalk him and monitor his movements, they said.

The woman, who runs a digital marketing business, enchanted by the anchor’s pictures which she saw on a matrimony website two years ago and started chatting with the account holder. However, she later realized that the account holder was using the anchor’s photo as the profile picture instead of his own profile picture. Determined to connect with the anchor, she searched through the profile and found his phone number.

Despite the anchor telling her that someone had created a fake account using her photo and that she had filed a complaint at the cyber crime police station, the woman remained adamant on sending him the message. When Anchor blocks her number, his determination to marry her grows stronger, leading to a plan to kidnap her.

In a desperate attempt to win the anchor’s love, the woman hires four men to kidnap him. On February 11, hired men kidnapped the anchor and took him to the woman’s office, where he was beaten badly. Fearing for his life, the anchor agreed to answer the woman’s call and only then was he released.

The anchor, shaken by the ordeal, lodged a complaint with the Uppal police station, and a case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including kidnapping, wrongful restraint, and wrongful confinement. During the course of the investigation, the police arrested the accused woman along with the four men she hired to carry out the kidnapping.

This incident serves a stark reminder about the dangers of online interactions and the importance of protecting personal information. It also highlights the need for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent such stalking and harassment cases.
