Raipur: In a shocking incident, Bhawani Nishad (30), a resident of Usarwara village in Chhattisgarh’s Balod district, has been arrested for murdering his mother and newborn son with an axe. The brutal episode, which unfolded on Saturday, is one of a series of recent family-related murders in the region.
Chhattisgarh police arrested accused man for double murder of mother and son. The wife of the accused, identified as 26-year-old Jageshwari, also sustained severe injuries in the attack.
Before the attack, Nishad had stolen an ATM card and withdrawn Rs 40,000 from the account. The theft became a topic of local gossip, creating a feeling of guilt within Nishad. In an inebriated state, he argued with his wife Jageshwari (26) over theft, which later turned into a violent confrontation.
According to police official, “The accused was detained from his house. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem and the injured woman was shifted to a nearby hospital,” the officer said, adding that the probe was launched after a case filed under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The controversy ended with the tragic death of Bhavani’s mother Shanti Nishad (50) and her two-month-old son Vaibhav. Nishad’s wife Jageshwari was injured in the attack but survived. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is reportedly out of danger.
On information from local people, police reached the spot and took Nishad into custody. He confessed to the crime, leading to his arrest. The incident has shocked the community and raised serious concerns about the rising number of family-related murders in the area.
