Chhattisgarh: After Bihar, Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, violence has erupted in Chhattisgarh as well. Although the matter here is not related to Ram Navami, but in a minor quarrel, two communities clashed, in which a 23-year-old youth died.

There was a lot of ruckus yesterday in the village of Bemetara district of Chhattisgarh. There was fierce stone-pelting, lathis and sword attacks between the two communities. The rioters did not even spare the police, the vehicle in which the policemen had reached the village was set on fire. It is alleged that one particular community tried to attack another in front of the police, after which they were chased away by lathicharge.

The matter escalated and a clash ensued in which Ishwar Sahu (23) was seriously injured and later died, they said. Bemetara Superintendent of Police (SP) Indira Kalyan Elesela said that a police team was sent to the spot, but the mob attacked the policemen and pelted stones at them, due to which three of them were injured.

He told that sub-inspector B. R. Thakur has suffered serious injuries. He said that the injured policemen have been admitted to a hospital. The mob also set ablaze heaps of straw and some vehicles, the official said. He said that additional police force was later sent to the spot and the situation was brought under control.

The SP said that the administration has imposed prohibitory orders in the area. He said though there is still some tension in the village, the situation is under control. He told that the police deployment will continue till the situation becomes normal. Officials said a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and 11 people were arrested.

So far 11 people have been arrested on charges of murder and violence. A large number of police forces are deployed in the village. Force has also been called from the surrounding districts.
