Congress accuses Central and State BJP governments of responsibility for rising onion prices

Congress is in a state of outrage due to the surge in onion prices just ahead of the elections. Ragini Nayak, the Congress’s national spokesperson, arrived at the PCC in Bhopal wearing a garland made of onions.

She launched a scathing attack on both the Shivraj government and the central government over the issue of inflation. Ragini Nayak, the Congress’s national spokesperson, stated, “Onions have reached Rs 80 per kilogram. Just a few days ago, tomatoes were being sold for Rs 200 to 250 per kilogram. So, Shivraj Singh, please tell us why onions are bringing tears to our eyes. Why is there a food grain scandal? Why are essential items that affect people’s daily lives becoming more expensive?”

Ragini pointed out that the price of flour has increased by 35% in the past year in Madhya Pradesh, while the cost of edible oil has doubled over the last three years. Additionally, GST has been imposed on milk, ghee, cheese, and other products. Even Sanchi’s dairy products, including buttermilk, shrikhand, peda, and cheese, have become more expensive. The public is bearing the brunt of inflation, and farmers are not benefiting either.

She added, “Onions are being sold for Rs 2 per kilogram in Shajapur, while in Bhopal, the same onions are sold for Rs 80 per kilogram. The same situation applies to garlic.” Ragini also referenced an incident involving Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who, when asked about the rising onion prices, responded by saying she does not consume onions and advised others to stop eating them.

Ragini Nayak further criticized Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste, who is currently contesting assembly elections, for finding a ?15 allowance expensive. She emphasized that the government has turned a blind eye to public issues, and it is crucial to raise awareness about this. Ragini Nayak underscored that the public can endure hardships, but they cannot tolerate being let down.

Present at the press conference were Congress national spokesperson Ragini Nayak, state spokesperson Jitendra Mishra, Abbas Hafeez, and Farhana Khan.

Ragini Nayak highlighted how previously, people could go to the market with their wallets during the Congress era and return with bags full of groceries. However, in the current scenario, even when they go to the market with bags full of money, their wallets cannot accommodate it. She stressed that these individuals will teach a lesson.

Ragini also mentioned the BJP’s inability to showcase achievements, even after making 29,000 announcements. She pointed out that during his address, Prime Minister Modi did not mention Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan or any of his announcements.
