IMD informed that cyclonic storm Biparjoy will gradually intensify during the next 36 hours. It will move north-northwestwards during the next 48 hours. In view of this, an alert has been issued for fishermen. They have been advised not to go into the sea.
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that Cyclone Biparjoy is going to intensify in the next 36 hours. It will move north and northwest in the next two days.
IMD stated that the cyclonic storm VSCS BIPARJOY lay centered at 0530 hours IST today. It is about 820 km west of Goa, 840 km west-southwest of Mumbai, 850 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 1140 km south of Karachi near latitude 14.7N and longitude 66.2E. It will further intensify during the next 48 hours.

Earlier in a bulletin, the Meteorological Department said that the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm lay over east-central Arabian Sea located 840 km west-southwest of Goa and 870 km west-southwest of Mumbai at 11:30 pm on June 8.

Meteorological Department issued alert
The Meteorological Department had also advised fishermen not to venture into such cyclone-hit areas in the Arabian Sea. Those who were at sea were advised to return to shore.
Earlier, the department had said that Cyclone Biparjoy is affecting the intensity of the monsoon. Due to this, the onset of monsoon in Kerala will be mild.
