New Delhi : The Delhi government’s excise department has released a list of “dry days” for the period between April and June. According to officials, liquor stores in Delhi will remain closed on the following days: Id-ul-Fitr (April 11), Ram Navami (April 17), Mahavir Jayanti (April 21), Buddha Purnima (May 23), and Id-ul-Zuha (June 17).
In addition to the specified dry days, liquor vends in the city will also be shut during significant election-related events. On May 23, from 6pm to May 25, 6pm, all liquor stores will close as Delhi’s Lok Sabha seats go to polls on May 25. Similarly, on June 4, when the counting of votes takes place, liquor vends will also remain closed.
Furthermore, the excise department has ordered the closure of all liquor vends in Delhi situated adjacent to the Uttar Pradesh border. This closure will be in effect from 6pm on April 24 to 6pm on April 26. The decision comes as Lok Sabha constituencies of Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, and Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh go to polls on April 26.
The closure order specifically applies to all licensees with vends or premises located within 100 meters of the border with Baghpat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar districts of Uttar Pradesh. The directive, signed by excise commissioner KM Uppu, aims to regulate liquor sales during the election period and maintain law and order in the border areas.
