Hailstorm Ravages Manipur: Schools Shut, Relief Measures Initiated

In the aftermath of a fierce hailstorm sweeping across Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has taken decisive action, announcing the closure of all schools and colleges on May 6 and 7. The move comes in response to the tumultuous weather conditions that have wreaked havoc in several regions of the state.

Singh emphasized that the decision was made as a precautionary measure to safeguard the populace from the potential dangers posed by the ongoing weather turmoil. Urging citizens to prioritize safety and remain indoors, he assured the public of the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and properties.

Devastation Unleashed: Homes Damaged, Assistance Extended

The hailstorm, accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds, has left a trail of destruction in its wake. Homes, particularly in areas like Canchipur and Tera in Imphal West, bore the brunt of the onslaught, with tin roofs riddled with holes due to hailstones.

The forceful winds didn’t spare hutments either, uprooting them in various regions. Additionally, parked vehicles suffered damages as hailstones cracked windshields, while trees were uprooted across many areas.

In response, Chief Minister Singh pledged swift action, promising to repair the damaged houses. He urged affected residents to submit photographs of their homes to the respective deputy commissioners for immediate assistance.

Assistance Helplines Launched

Understanding the urgency of the situation, the Chief Minister’s Office has launched helpline numbers for different districts impacted by the calamity. These numbers aim to provide immediate assistance and support to those in need during this challenging time.

Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens affected by the adverse weather conditions. He urged individuals requiring assistance not to hesitate in reaching out for help, emphasizing that the state stands united in providing aid during this testing period.
