Delhi Excise Policy Case: Supreme Court to hear K. Kavitha petition on March 24, ED will questioning tomorrow

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to grant interim relief to BRS MLC K. Kavita. The court has decided to hear on March 24 the plea of Telangana CM’s daughter and BRS leader Kavita, who is under investigation in the Delhi excise policy scam.

The Supreme Court said that the ED has already questioned her once and calling a woman to the ED headquarters in the name of questioning is against the law of the land. However, despite this, the court refused to grant her interim bail, after which she will appear before the ED for questioning tomorrow i.e. Thursday, March 16.

Seeking urgent hearing of the plea, Kavita’s counsel said a woman cannot be called for questioning at the ED office and as per law, should be questioned at residence.

Kavita’s lawyer says that the central probe agency wants to confront the BRS leader with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramachandra Pillai, who is an accused in the liquor scam, but the ED has not done anything so far.

On the petition filed, the Supreme Court questioned why immediate hearing is being demanded? To which his lawyer replied that the ED hearing is tomorrow, March 16. In such a situation, he is demanding an early hearing.

Significantly, on March 11 by the ED, K. Kavitha was questioned along with Pillai’s statements and she has been asked to appear again on March 16. The ED claims that Kavita was linked to a ‘South Group’ liquor cartel, which paid bribes of around Rs 100 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party to help it get a bigger share of the market in the national capital under the Delhi Excise Policy.

This matter pertains to the year 2020-21 and ED is probing the matter. According to the ED, the cartel includes Sarath Reddy, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy YSR Congress MP, his son Raghav Magunta, Kavitha and others.
