Vigilance Department removed Jailed Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar for obstructing govt work

New Delhi: AAP supremo and Jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, has been terminated from his services. The decision was taken by the Vigilance Department’s Secretary, citing allegations of obstructing government work against Bibhav Kumar.

The vigilance department said in a statement that Bibhav Kumar has been dismissed from the post of personal secretary to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo “with immediate effect”. After a detailed investigation into Kumar’s legal entanglements and non-compliance of proper procedures for his appointment, it was decided to dismiss him from his services, the department said.

The vigilance directorate cited the FIR filed against Bibhav Kumar as the reason for his dismissal. The case was filed in 2007 by a person named Mahesh Pal, posted in the Noida Development Authority.

It alleged that Bibhav Kumar along with three others “obstructed the complainant, a public servant, in discharging his duty and abused/threatened him”. The FIR further stated that without arresting Bibhav Kumar and Rajiv Kumar, another accused in the case, the chargesheet was submitted in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, where it is currently pending.

The vigilance department said,”Despite being appointed conditionally based on the pending outcome of a criminal case against him (FIR 102/07 under IPC sections 353, 504, and 506), concerns were raised following the directives from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) regarding appointments without prior verification of character and antecedents.”

It stressed that administrative action was “necessary”; hence Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant was sacked. On April 8, he was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi liquor policy case after this Bibhav Kumar was removed from his post. ED officials said his statement was recorded under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
