Kolkata: Many parts of India are under grip of heat wave and in many areas the maximum temperature has reached 40 degrees Celsius to 46 degrees Celsius. Amidst the scorching heat, a TV anchor fainted while reading heatwave updates during a live broadcast. His blood pressure suddenly dropped. Doordarshan’s Kolkata branch anchor Lopamudra Sinha can be heard fainting and speaking softly while reading the summer news.

Lopamudra Sinha said in Bengali that she was feeling unwell and thirsty before the broadcast on Thursday morning. She said, “I never carry a water bottle with me. Be it a fifteen-minute broadcast or a half-hour broadcast. I have never felt the need to drink water while broadcasting in my 21-year-old career, but this time, 15 minutes before the end, I felt thirsty and there were no visuals playing on the TV instead of my face, so I signaled to the floor manager and asked for a water bottle.”

Lopamudra Sinha further said that she was not getting a chance to drink water as only normal news was being played without any bytes. At the end of the bulletin, a bite came and I used this opportunity to drink water. I became unconscious after some time after drinking water. My voice started becoming unclear.

The ongoing heat wave affecting parts of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal is the second heat wave this month. The first heatwave scorched parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. On Saturday, the maximum temperature at some places was recorded seven to eight degrees above normal. Midnapore and Bankura in West Bengal recorded temperatures of 44.5 degrees Celsius and 44.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
