Madurai : The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) internal conflict takes a new turn as the Special Task Force (STF) registers an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against its own officer, Ankit Tiwari, from Madurai. The case has been transferred to Delhi amid escalating tensions with the Tamil Nadu police.
Ankit Tiwari, an ED officer in Madurai, was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Tamil Nadu on December 1, in connection with a Rs 20 lakh bribery case. The arrest has triggered a series of events leading to a clash between the ED and Tamil Nadu police.
In response to the internal conflict, the Special Task Force of the Enforcement Directorate has initiated action by registering an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Ankit Tiwari. The case has been relocated to Delhi, indicating a heightened level of scrutiny and investigation into the allegations.
A day after Ankit Tiwari’s arrest, the ED lodged a complaint with the state police, accusing the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) of trespassing their office during the raids. The ED claimed that unauthorized personnel forcibly entered the office premises, alleging theft of sensitive files. The complaint stated that only four DVAC officers and two witnesses were authorized to conduct the search, with 35 individuals forcefully entering the office, some without proper identification.
In response to the ED’s complaint, the Tamil Nadu police are yet to take any action, as per available reports. The DVAC countered the ED’s claims, asserting that they had informed the designated Madurai court about the search operation.
As tensions persist, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police has assumed control over the security of ED offices in the state. This development underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for heightened security measures in the wake of the internal dispute.
