ED Raids Alleged Middlemen’s Residences in West Bengal School Jobs Scam Probe

School Jobs Scam: In an extensive operation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at eight locations in and around Kolkata, focusing on individuals suspected of playing intermediary roles in the alleged jobs scam related to state-run and aided schools in West Bengal. The searches, which began at 6:30 am, concluded in phases by 10 pm.

Middlemen’s Residences and Assets Targeted

The ED targeted residences, offices, and bungalows associated with those believed to be “middlemen” in the scam. These intermediaries were allegedly involved in collecting money and facilitating irregularities in school job recruitments. The raids were carried out with the assistance of a significant number of central forces.

Proximity to Arrested Political Figures

According to an ED officer, one of the middlemen maintained close ties with former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and arrested MLA Jibon Saha. The agency is investigating properties linked to these middlemen, with a focus on tracing the source of the accumulated funds. The ED claimed that one middleman possessed properties at over 400 locations in the state.

Ongoing Probe and Future Actions

The ED is examining bank documents and property-related papers to unravel the extent of involvement of these middlemen in the alleged scam. Another middleman’s name has emerged during the investigation, leading to ongoing search operations at his residence. Properties were reportedly registered in the names of middlemen and their associates, prompting further investigation into their roles in the scam.
