Late on Monday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the official residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Delhi, seizing Rs 36 lakh in cash, a BMW with a Haryana number plate registered under a “benami” name, and incriminating documents in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam case in Jharkhand.

The ED team, present at 5/1 Shanti Niketan, Soren’s Delhi residence, for almost 13 hours, conducted the operation as part of its investigation into the alleged land scam. Soren was not present at home during the searches, and officials camped outside during the entire operation.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, allegedly missing since January 27, has reportedly returned to Ranchi. Section 144 CrPc has been imposed within a 100-meter radius of Soren’s residence, Raj Bhavan, and the ED office in Ranchi.
In response to fresh summons issued last week, Soren is expected to appear before the ED on Wednesday. In a letter to the ED, he asserted his willingness to record his statement at 1 pm on Wednesday at his residence. However, Soren accused the ED of pursuing a political agenda, disrupting the functioning of the state government, and preventing him from discharging his official duties. He labeled the summons as vexatious, politically motivated, and an attempt to misuse statutory powers.
