In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a 14-hour-long raid at the residence of West Bengal minister Chandranath Sinha in Birbhum district. During the operation, which took place on Friday at Sinha’s Bolpur residence, the ED sleuths seized several property-related documents, a mobile phone, and over ₹40 lakh in cash. The raid was carried out as part of the agency’s investigation into an alleged school recruitment scam.
The search operation, initiated by the ED officers, was aimed at gathering evidence related to the suspected irregularities in the school recruitment process. Sinha’s residence in Bolpur was the primary target of the raid, where the authorities uncovered significant findings.
Among the items seized by the ED were property-related documents crucial to the ongoing investigation. Additionally, the officers confiscated a substantial amount of cash amounting to over ₹40 lakh. The presence of such a large sum of money at the minister’s residence raised questions, to which Sinha reportedly could not provide a satisfactory explanation.
Interestingly, the ED conducted the raid while Sinha was away at his ancestral house in Murarai, located approximately 90 km away from Bolpur. However, upon learning about the raid, Sinha was asked to return to Bolpur by the ED officers.
Upon his return, Sinha was subjected to several hours of questioning by the ED officials until midnight. The nature of the interrogation and the specifics of the questions posed to the minister were not disclosed. Nevertheless, the ED confirmed that their inquiries were aimed at uncovering any potential irregularities or misconduct related to the alleged school recruitment scam.
