Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials at Tiruchirappalli airport make a startling discovery as they seize nearly 1 kilogram of gold from a passenger arriving from Dubai, concealed in an unusual manner.
A passenger arriving from Dubai on an Air India Express flight is found to have 977 grams of 24 carat gold, valued at ₹70.58 lakh, concealed in three packets inside his rectum, highlighting the desperate lengths to which smugglers will go to evade detection.
The passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, has been arrested by authorities, with further investigation underway to uncover any potential accomplices or networks involved in the smuggling operation.
This incident comes just months after another smuggling attempt was foiled at the same airport in March, where AIU officials seized 410 grams of gold worth ₹26.62 lakh from a passenger arriving from Singapore, once again concealed in a cunning manner.
Authorities remain vigilant against the persistent threat of gold smuggling, as evidenced by these recent incidents, which underscore the need for heightened security measures and stringent enforcement to deter such illicit activities.
