New Delhi: On Tuesday night, Facebook, Instagram and Threads users reported that they couldn’t access the social media apps. Users around the world faced significant login issues on multiple Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Threads, reflecting a widespread disruption in digital communications and social media engagement. The incident affected millions of global users, prompting a swift response from Meta’s technical team, including London-based Netblocks and cybersecurity experts, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
Several other users were also facing issues with the Meta-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp. Users experienced issues around 8:56 pm, reporting difficulties in loading content on their feeds. Issues are being reported with the app, login, and uploading content.
A flood of reports began pouring in during the wee hours of Tuesday, with users expressing frustration at being forcefully logged out of their accounts without the ability to log back in. The issue was not limited to one platform; Instagram fans found themselves unable to refresh their feeds, and social media fell into a state of blackout. According to cybersecurity expert Matthew Green, confirmed by NetBlocks, the outage is classified as ‘widespread’, affecting not only Meta’s major platforms, but potentially extending its reach to other services.
The outage, affecting hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people has sparked a flurry of reactions across the digital sphere, with many turning to alternative platforms to voice their concerns and seek updates.
