FIR against ex-Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa for sexually assaulting 17-year-old

New Delhi: In a shocking development, Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa accused of sexual assault of 17-year-old girl and has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a teen girl. The FIR, registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) and section 354 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), was filed at Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru during the early hours of Friday.

Based on the FIR, the occurrence occurred on February 2 when the minor and her mother visited the former Chief Minister’s residence seeking assistance. The minor had been subjected to sexual assault, prompting her family to seek help from the BJP leader.

The victim’s mother has accused the 81-year-old of sexually assaulting the minor in a room, reports claim.

The FIR mentioned that the veteran BJP leader allegedly sexually assaulted the girl after dragging her into a room, according to sources. When she managed to run out, she told her mother about the alleged assault.

Mr Yediyurappa’s office has refutes the charges and allegations and released a list of cases filed by the complainant in the past. There are 53 different complaints on the list.

81-year-old BS Yediyurappa, a prominent figure in Karnataka politics, has held various key positions including four terms as Chief Minister and three terms as Leader of the Opposition in the state Legislative Assembly. He holds the record for being the longest-serving BJP Chief Minister of Karnataka. Representing the Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district, he has been elected as an MLA eight times. Yediyurappa first became Chief Minister in 2008 but resigned in 2011 due to a corruption case. He later left the BJP due to alleged mistreatment and formed his own party, the Karnataka Janata Paksha. However, he rejoined the BJP in 2014 and was elected to the Lok Sabha before returning to state politics.
