First Phase of PM Shri Scheme to Develop 233 Schools in Jammu and Kashmir

The Union Territory administration has requested approval from the Ministry of Education for the upgradation of an additional 265 schools in the second phase.

First Phase of PM Shri Scheme to Develop 233 Schools in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness the upgradation and development of 233 existing schools in the initial phase of the PM Schools for Rising India (PM Shri) scheme. The Union Territory administration has taken strides towards this educational enhancement initiative, with a subsequent recommendation for the upgradation of an additional 265 schools in the second phase, seeking approval from the Ministry of Education.

Master Trainers Trained for PM Shri Scheme Implementation


Twenty master trainers, representing each district, have undergone training in New Delhi to facilitate the successful implementation of the scheme. In a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to review the PM SHRI Schools scheme’s progress, the focus was emphasized on providing leadership to schools, promoting critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. The vision behind PM SHRI Schools is to set a benchmark for learning outcomes in every child, setting an example for other schools in their respective areas.

The announcement of PM-SHRI for the upgradation and development of approximately 14,500 schools across the country was made by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Teacher’s Day in 2022. During the meeting, Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, provided a detailed presentation on the guiding principles for school selection under the scheme.

Lt Governor Urges 5-Year Plan to Shorten School Distances


Lt Governor Manoj Sinha directed the formulation of a comprehensive five-year plan to reduce the distance of schools for children, ensuring that new schools are sanctioned with a focus on minimizing travel distances. Additionally, he urged the inclusion of life histories and contributions of inspirational figures like General Zorawar Singh, Brig Rajinder Singh, Maqbool Sherwani, and others in the school curriculum. The Lt Governor emphasized the importance of incorporating vocational training and skill development programs in schools, along with the inclusion of Indian Philosophy in all universities in the Union Territory.
