Foreign-made weapons seized by CBI during search operation in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali

Amidst the Lok Sabha elections, CBI has taken major action in the Sandeshkhali case of West Bengal. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided many places in West Bengal. Kolkata: Central Investigation Agency (CBI) raided several places in West Bengal in the Sandeshkhali case. The investigating agency recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition. These raids were conducted during the second phase of voting under the Lok Sabha elections-2024 in many states of the country including West Bengal. Voting is being held for 3 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal.

The move come a day after the CBI – tasked with probing allegations of extortion, land grab, and sexual assault against suspended Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates – carried out raids on hideouts linked to those who attacked the Enforcement Directorate team on January 5.

A 10-member CBI team raided a house in Sarberia area of ​​Sandeshkhali, which belonged to a relative of local Trinamool Congress leader Hafeezul Khan. Sources said that with the help of central security forces, the CBI team recovered arms and ammunition as well as several bombs kept inside the house.

The investigating officer reached the spot after receiving a tip-off and also brought with him a bomb scanning device to detect the explosives. The raid is currently going on. Former Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested on February 29 after 55 days on the run in the case of attack on the ED team.

His arrest came just three days after the Calcutta High Court criticized the state police for delaying action against him, saying he should be arrested. After his arrest, West Bengal Police transferred his custody to CBI. Sheikh Shahjahan has also been accused of sexual violence and land grabbing by many women in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal.

ED was attacked
On January 5, during an attempt to raid the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Shaikh in connection with the ration scam, locals in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, attacked Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and the CRPF personnel accompanying them. Gave. The mob surrounded the ED from all sides, after which it was attacked.

What is the allegation against TMC leader?
In Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, village women had recently accused TMC leader Shahjahan Shaikh and other TMC leaders of occupying their lands and some women had also accused TMC leaders of sexual exploitation. Along with this, Shahjahan Sheikh is also an accused in the ration scam. However, CBI has conducted this raid at a time when voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections is going on in West Bengal. Today voting is taking place on three seats of West Bengal.
