In a devastating incident at Harni Motnath Lake in Vadodara, Gujarat, a boat capsized, resulting in the tragic loss of 14 lives, including 12 school children. A case has been registered against 18 individuals in connection with the incident, as confirmed by Leela Patil, DCP Vadodara.

Leela Patil stated to the media, “A boat carrying children capsized in Harni Motnath Lake. A case has been registered, and post-mortem procedures for the victims are currently underway.”

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation Congress leader, Ami Rawat, expressed outrage, deeming the incident an “act of murder” rather than an accident. Rawat demanded a thorough investigation by a sitting judge, citing negligence due to the absence of life jackets and lifeguards on the ill-fated boat. Rawat also highlighted objections raised in 2016 when the project was allotted to contractors.

Gujarat Boat Capsize incident, Case Registered. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, accompanied by Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, visited SSG Hospital in Vadodara to meet the injured. Sanghavi reported that out of the 20 people rescued, 14 lost their lives, including 12 school children and two teachers. The Chief Minister has ordered a robust inquiry, invoking IPC sections 304, 308, and 114 against the accused. Two individuals have been apprehended, and a magisterial inquiry has been entrusted to Vadodara District Collector.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences for the lives lost and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of each deceased. Additionally, Rs 50,000 would be provided to the injured. The Gujarat government announced Rs 4 Lakhs each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
