Holi 2023: Know some tips and tricks to prevent Holi colors from damaging your hair and skin

Pre-Holi Skin Care Tips: Holi is being celebrated on March 7 and 8 this year. Holi is played with colors and gulal the day after Holika Dahan, but are you ready to save your skin from damage? Here are some ways by adopting which you can avoid chemical.

Lucknow: Holi preparations are in full swing. Holi is incomplete without colors. In the midst of this festival full of colors and gulal, it is also important to take care of your skin. This year Holi is being celebrated on 7th and 8th March. Holi is celebrated with colors and gulal on the next day of Holika Dahan and the tradition of feeding each other sweets and applying color is associated with this festival. Colors can adversely damage your skin and hair and it is important to protect them before they get damaged.

Here we are sharing some Skin and Hair Care Tips with you, by adopting which you can save your skin from harmful chemicals this Holi.

Some tips and tricks to prevent Holi colors damages-

1- Apply coconut oil
Coconut oil is know for its antibacterial properties and it also has properties to reduce inflammation. So apply a good amount of coconut oil all over your body from hair to toes before going out to play Holi. Coconut oil forms a protective layer on your skin and prevents the colors from penetrating deep into your skin.

2- Apply sunscreen
Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) between 20 and 30, as this will also protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays and pigments. That’s why apply sunscreen at least 15-20 minutes before going out of the house to play Holi.

3- Apply conditioner or serum to your hair
Apply leave-on conditioner or hair serum before playing holi. This protects the hair from the effects of sun exposure and dryness caused by colors.

3- Apply face pack
To protect your face from harmful colors, apply a homemade face pack made from natural ingredients like honey, curd and turmeric.

4- Use wet wipes
As soon as the colors are applied on the face, keep wet wipes with you to wipe the colors immediately. This will prevent the colors from settling into your skin and causing irritation.

5- Apply Aloe Vera gel
After playing with colors, apply aloe vera gel on your skin or you can use a cleanser containing aloe vera extracts, which is effective in removing Holi colors from your skin. Aloe vera helps in reducing skin irritation and rashes. You can also apply aloevera to your hairs as it will protect from further damages.

Skin and Hair care tips after Holi-

– Try to clean those colors with clean water immediately after playing Holi. As long as that color is wet, it will be very easy to get rid of it. Whereas once the color dries, it becomes a bit difficult to get rid of it. Then after every bath it becomes weak day by day and disappears on its own.

– To remove color from the skin after Holi, mix two tablespoons of lemon juice in one bowl of curd and apply it on the skin. After this take a bath with normal or lukewarm water. Another solution is to make a thick paste by mixing gram flour, almond oil and milk cream in rose water. After this, apply that paste on the colored skin till it dries. Then remove that paste by rubbing it with your hands and take a bath with clean water. After bath, put some rose water in your eyes and relax. By doing this your eyes will get rest.

– One way to get rid of color from the skin on the day of Holi is to wash your face using lukewarm water. After this, make a mixture of sea salt, glycerin and a few drops of essential oil and apply it there. This mixture is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, using which the chemicals mixed in the colors do not affect the skin much.

– Take one cup sesame seeds, two tablespoons each dried mint leaves, olive oil, honey and lemon juice. Crush the sesame seeds coarsely and powder the dried mint leaves. Mix with oil, honey and lemon juice. Sesame seeds actually have sun protective properties and also soothe sun-damaged skin. It helps to remove tan and produce an even colour tone. Mint has a stimulating effect and adds a glow to the skin, while honey moisturizes and softens the skin. Oily and lemon juice help to remove the colour. Rub gently on face, neck and arms. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash off with water.

– Ripe papaya is an excellent cleanser. Mix gram flour (besan), curd, lemon juice and one tablespoon coconut oil into a paste. Apply on the face and body, rub gently on the skin and wash off with plenty of water.

For Hairs:

– Taking care of hair also becomes necessary on the day of Holi. That’s why after playing Holi, wash your hair with plain water. By doing this, the gulal and most of the colors come off. After this wash the hair immediately with mild shampoo and conditioner.

– Add a handful each of dry reetha, amla and shikakai to one litre of water and soak overnight. Next day, simmer over a low fire till water reduces to half. Cool and strain. Keep in fridge. The liquid is enough for four hair washes. Avoid making large quantities at a time.

– Mix one tablespoon coconut oil with methi seed powder and curd. After rinsing the hair, apply this pack on the hair and shampoo after half an hour. Cools, relieves itching and removes colour.

– Another way to clean hair after Holi is to mix four tablespoons of honey and a few drops of lemon juice in two tablespoons of olive oil. After this, apply this solution thoroughly on your hair and scalp. After keeping it in the hair for about half an hour, shampoo the hair and wash it with lukewarm water.
