Income Tax Department raided 16 locations in Bengaluru, gold, over Rs 1 crore in cash seized

The Income Tax Department raided 16 locations in Bengaluru, recovering a substantial amount of gold and Rs 1.33 crore in cash from industrialists and gold merchants.

Bengaluru: A substantial amount of cash and gold was seized as the Income Tax Department raided 16 locations in Bengaluru over the past two days. The raids were conducted on the premises of industrialists and gold merchants.

According to the details, a total of Rs 1 crore and 33 lakh in cash was seized.

Additionally, 22 kg and 923 grams of gold jewellery, along with benami property deeds were also seized.

The development comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Here are the locations from where the gold jewellery was confiscated-

-Gold jewellery worth over Rs 3 crore was seized from Shankarpur, within the Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituency.

-Gold worth Rs 3 crore and 39 lakhs was seized from Saradevi Road, within the Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituency.

-Gold worth Rs 2 crore and 13 lakhs was seized from Mercantile Bank, within the Bangalore South constituency.

-Gold worth Rs 5 crore and 33 lakh was recovered from Jayanagar 3rd Block, part of the Bangalore South constituency.

-Gold bullion worth 84 was recovered from Saraswat Bank in Chamarajpet, within the Bangalore South constituency.

-A 6.38-carat diamond, worth 3 lakh and 34 thousand was recovered at the Post Office in Basavanagudi, Bangalore South.

-A 5.99-carat diamond, valued 3 lakh and 14 thousand was discovered on Mata Sharada Devi Road, Bangalore South.

-A 202.83-carat diamond worth Rs 6 crore and 40 lakhs was uncovered in Jayanagar, part of the Bangalore South.

Meanwhile, campaigning for 14 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka going to polls on April 26 will come to an end by Wednesday evening.

The state has a total of 28 Lok Sabha segments.

The remaining 14 constituencies, mostly in the northern districts, will go to polls on May 7
