IPL 2024 Auction : As the international cricket calendar takes a pause, all eyes are set on the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises heading into a heated bidding war for the upcoming season. In a historic move, the auction is scheduled away from home, taking place on December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, featuring a massive pool of 333 players.
The diverse player roster consists of 214 Indian players, 119 overseas cricketers, and two from associate countries. Among them, 116 are capped cricketers, while 215 are uncapped. Only 70 players out of the 333 hopefuls will secure an IPL contract, with 30 spots reserved for overseas talents.
Four teams enter the auction with a substantial purse exceeding INR 30 crore – Gujarat Titans (38.15), Sunrisers Hyderabad (34), Kolkata Knight Riders (32.7), and Chennai Super Kings (31.4). Other franchises like Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore boast budgets of INR 29.1 crore, INR 28.95 crore, and INR 23.25 crore, respectively. Mumbai Indians have INR 17.75 crores, Rajasthan Royals have INR 14.5 crores, while Lucknow Super Giants hold the lowest amount with INR 13.15.
Kolkata Knight Riders lead the way as the busiest side with 12 slots to fill, closely followed by Delhi Capitals with 9 slots. Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, and Punjab Kings all aim to fill eight slots each.
