Karnataka: Five college students including 3 women drown while swimming in river Cauvery in Ramanagara

Bengaluru: Police said that Five students, including three women, drowned at the confluence of the river Cauvery in Ramanagara district of Karnataka. The victims were among 12 students who had come here from Bengaluru, Satanur police said.

Bengaluru: Police said that Five students, including three women, drowned at the confluence of the river Cauvery in Ramanagara district of Karnataka. The victims were among 12 students who had come here from Bengaluru, Satanur police said.

The incident happened when the students were enjoying swimming. According to the police report, the deceased five students were students of private colleges of Bengaluru.

The students deceased were identified as Harshita (20), Abhishek (20), Tejas (21), Varsha (20) and Sneha (19). When they were swimming, they were caught in a whirlpool and drowned.

Official said that the remaining seven students fled after their friends drowned. After the incident, a case was filed and the bodies were sent to Dayananda Sagar Hospital for a post-mortem.

Ramanagara Superintendent of Police (SP) Karthik Reddy said,” An horrific incident was reported at Sathnur police station limits. Twelve students went on a trip to Sangama and unfortunately, five students drowned. Nobody is missing.” He added,”We found the bodies of those who were missing. They are all students of a Bengaluru college aged between 19 and 20 years old.”
