Madhya Pradesh: Betul Lok Sabha Election Postponed as BSP Candidate Dies of Heart Attack

The Lok Sabha election in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, has been postponed following the sudden death of Ashok Bhalavi, a candidate from Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Bhalavi passed away due to a cardiac arrest, as confirmed by the District Magistrate, Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi, on Tuesday. The elections, previously scheduled for the second phase on April 26, have been delayed in the constituency.

Betul Lok Sabha Election Postponed as BSP Candidate Dies. Bhalavi complained of chest pain and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors. Dr. Manish Lashkare, from a private hospital, stated that Bhalavi suffered a heart attack and couldn’t be revived upon arrival.

District Magistrate Suryavanshi informed the Election Commission about Bhalavi’s demise, leading to the postponement of the elections under Section 52 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

According to Narendra Singh Raghuvanshi, the district collector and returning officer, the election process has been halted as per the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, awaiting further directives from the Election Commission of India.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s incumbent MP, Durga Das Uikey, and Congress candidate Ramu Tekam were among the contenders for the Betul seat. The constituency was set to vote alongside other constituencies in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, including Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, and Hoshangabad.
