Maharashtra: 20-year-old worker crushed to death by crane in Navi Mumbai; Operator booked

An official from Kharghar police station said the non-responsible crane operator moved the machine forward without noticing crushing the labourer to death. He stated that Tangdi was a resident of the Belapur area in Navi Mumbai and had been working at the construction site for days.

Navi Mumbai: In yet another tragic incident, A 20-year-old labourer was killed by a crane at a cable laying site in Navi Mumbai on Saturday. The incident unfolded at around 11:30 am in the Kharghar area when the victim, identified as Sunil Kumar Tangdi, was pushing a cable drum at the site where digging was underway and he fell on the road near the crane.

An official from Kharghar police station said the non-responsible crane operator moved the machine forward without noticing crushing the labourer to death. He stated that Tangdi was a resident of the Belapur area in Navi Mumbai and had been working at the construction site for days.

According to victim’s brother complaint, a case has been registered against the crane operator under Indian Penal Code sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life) and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, the official said.

The body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem, the police said, adding a probe was on into the incident.
