Maharashtra Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP Alliance Eyes Clean Sweep in East Vidarbha

Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed confidence in the Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, to secure a comprehensive victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Fadnavis asserted that the alliance is poised for success in the east Vidarbha region, where polling is scheduled for the first phase on April 19. He attributed this optimism to the impactful governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past decade.

Fadnavis highlighted the favorable sentiment towards the BJP in constituencies of east Vidarbha, especially citing the strong candidacy of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur. He emphasized the BJP’s grassroots outreach efforts over the past few years, underscoring their commitment to connect with voters at the booth level.

Addressing queries on seat allocation, Fadnavis mentioned that discussions are underway regarding the Lok Sabha seat to be allocated to RSP leader Mahadev Jankar, with a decision expected soon. Notably, Maharashtra, with its 48 parliamentary seats, will vote in five phases beginning April 19, covering constituencies including Nagpur, Gadchiroli-Chimur (ST), Bhandara-Gondiya, Chandrapur, and Ramtek (SC).

In four of these seats, the BJP and Congress are set for a direct electoral contest. Gadkari, seeking re-election for a third term from Nagpur, faces opposition from Congress’s Vikas Thakre, with Nagpur being significant as the headquarters of the RSS. The deadline for filing nominations in these constituencies is March 27.
