A 40-year-old man, Inder Kumar Mali, was arrested in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, for posing as an officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Mali claimed that he had come to collect shoes and other items, having deceived his wife by pretending to be an air force officer. The arrest took place outside the Bareilly Air Force Station.
During interrogation, Mali’s claim of being an IAF officer unraveled when his identity cards and documents were found to be counterfeit. He had incorrectly worn the uniform of a flight lieutenant. Other security agencies were informed about the incident, and several fake documents, including Aadhaar cards, ATM cards, and a forged Army ID card, were seized from him.
IAF personnel detained Mali outside the Bareilly Air Force Station and subsequently handed him over to the police. The Assistant Security Officer of the Air Force Station, Yogendra Yadav, filed a complaint leading to Mali’s arrest.
Mali has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged documents), and 170 (personating a public servant). The case is currently under investigation by the Izzatnagar police station.
Although Mali is originally from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, he had been residing in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, for the past three years. The arrest sheds light on a prolonged period of impersonation, raising questions about the extent and motives behind Mali’s deceptive activities.
