Man flies from Bangkok with 10 yellow anacondas, gets arrested at Bengaluru International Airport

Bengaluru: A passenger was arrested at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle 10 yellow anacondas hidden in his check-in luggage. The officials discovered 10 yellow anacondas concealed in the passenger's check-in bag upon his arrival from Bangkok.

Bengaluru: A passenger was arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle 10 yellow anacondas hidden in his check-in luggage.

The officials said that they discovered 10 yellow anacondas concealed in the passenger’s check-in bag upon his arrival from Bangkok. In a post on social media platform X, the Bengaluru Customs department said the officials intercepted the passenger who arrived from Bangkok and arrested him.

In a post on social media platform X, the department said,”Passenger arrested and investigation is underway. Wildlife trafficking will not be tolerated.” The authorities emphasized their commitment to combating the illegal trade of wildlife, which is prohibited under Indian laws and the Customs Act, 1962.

According to the law, wildlife trade and trafficking is illegal in India. The yellow anaconda is a riverine species found close to water bodies. Yellow anacondas are commonly found in Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and northern Uruguay.

At Bengaluru airport, customs officials rescued 234 wild animals, including a baby kangaroo that was reportedly smuggled in by a passenger from Bangkok, Last year. The baby kangaroo had suffocated to death in a plastic box.
