Massive protest by BJP in Rajasthan over ‘insult’ of widows of Pulwama martyrs; Party leaders detained

JAIPUR: In Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, BJP workers protested vigorously in connection with the demands of the martyred soldiers of the Pulwama attack in 2019 and the alleged assault on BJP MP Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena. The protesters pelted stones at the police van. There was a scuffle between BJP workers and police personnel. BJP workers going to Chief Minister’s residence have been taken into custody by the police.

At the same time, Minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas went to the hospital and met BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena and said that whatever happened was wrong. They will talk to the police officers in the whole matter. No public representative should be treated like this. He said that holding the collar of the MP by the police is totally wrong. Action should be taken on this.

He said, “Police tried to kill me but I was saved by the grace of brave women, youth, unemployed and poor. I am injured and have been referred from Govindgarh Hospital to Sawai Mansingh Hospital in Jaipur.” Widows of CRPF jawans killed in the 2019 terror attack were removed from outside Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s residence – their protest site in Jaipur at around 3 am today – and shifted to hospitals near their residential areas.

The BJP has slammed the state government, calling the action an “insult to the widows” and accusing it of not fulfilling the promises made to the families. Meanwhile, Meena has tweeted, “I was going to visit Samod Balaji with supporters, but Samod police station stopped me and abused and manhandled me. Is standing with heroines such a big crime that the Ashok Gehlot government Is behaving like this with a public representative?

The widows of the jawans killed in the Pulwama terror attack have been protesting since February 28, demanding a change in the rules so that not only their relatives but also their children can get government jobs on compassionate ground. Their other demands include construction of roads and installation of statues of martyrs in their villages. Responding to the demand of the widows of the soldiers, the CM had asked whether it would be appropriate to take away the jobs of the children of the martyrs and give them to the relatives.

On the demand for a third statue of one of the slain jawans, the CM said it would be injustice to other widows and their families.

This comes after the Rajasthan police on Friday removed the widows of the three CRPF jawans killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack from the protest site outside Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s house and shifted them to hospitals near their respective residential areas. The widows earlier sought permission from Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra to end their own lives.

They accused the state government of failing to fulfill promises made to them, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena said on Saturday, as per sources.
