Migrant tourist guide shot at by suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian

Shopian: Terrorists on Monday attacked a migrant worker in Padpawan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. Reportedly, he sustained injuries in his abdomen and arm. The non-local guide, recognised as Ranjit Singh, was accompanying foreign tourists and was having dinner at a local restaurant when terrorists, with their faces covered, barged in and fired at him.

In the past few years, there have been several similar incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, a migrant worker Amritpal Singh, who was a resident of Punjab, was shot dead in Srinagar. The non-local workers often become targets of the terrorists.

Informing about the incident, District Police Shopian stated that the victim, who was fired upon by terrorists in Heerpora Shopian was a taxi driver and an investigation into the matter is underway. The guide was grievously injured in the attack and was shifted for treatment to Srinagar Hospital. He suffered three bullet wounds, police said.

The police have, meanwhile, cordoned off the area and a hunt has been launched to catch the terrorists.

The incident unfolded at nearly 9 PM when the terrorists fired upon and injured Dilranjeet Singh, in the Herpora area of the south Kashmir district. The victim is a resident of Uttarakhand’s Dehradun. The condition of the accused is stable and the police have cordoned off the area where Singh was shot at.

The attack in Srinagar comes a month after terrorists opened fire on army trucks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, prompting troops to retaliate. According to some reports, the terrorists may have fled after the initial firing, which also included bullets fired from a neighboring hill in the Krishna Valley area.
