Mumbai: An official said that a 35-year-old women was strangled to killed allegedly by her 24-year-old boyfriend at hotel on suspicion that she was having an affair with another man in Navi Mumbai. She was a manager of a private bank in Navi Mumbai.
The accused is identified as Shoeb Shaikh, a resident of Marol in Andheri. An official said that the Mumbai Police arrested the accused, Shoeb Sheikh (24), from his house in suburban Saki Naka in the early hours of the day before he could flee to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh.
While the victim, Amrit R. Kaur alias Amy, 35, lived in Sion, and was the manager of a private bank’s Navi Mumbai branch. The police said that on interrogation, the accused revealed that he had checked into a hotel in Navi Mumbai with his girlfriend Amy alias Amit Ravindra Kaur (35) on Monday.
Giving information about this incident, The official added that Sheikh suspected that Kaur was having an affair with another man and allegedly strangled her to death in a fit of rage. He said the crime came to light after the Mumbai Police received a tip-off that Sheikh was involved in some illegal activity, following which they reached his home in Sakinaka.
During his interrogation, Sheikh told police about the murder, he said, adding that the Mumbai Police then informed their counterparts in Turbhe area of Navi Mumbai. Based on the revelations by the accused, the Turbhe Police rushed to the hotel where they recovered the woman’s body in one of the rooms which was sealed off pending the probe.
He said the victim was working as a manager at a Navi Mumbai branch of IDFC Bank. She was a resident of Sion Koliwada area in Mumbai. After the recovery of the body, Shaikh has been charged under various sections of Indian Penal Code including murder and further investigations are underway.
