Mumbai : In a distressing incident, a 28-year-old chartered accountant suffered a loss of ₹6.72 lakh after his credit and debit cards were stolen from his unattended belongings at Cross Maidan in south Mumbai. The victim, Vivek Dave, had left his wallet containing valuable cards and a mobile phone unattended while engrossed in a cricket game.

The incident, which occurred on March 30, prompted the filing of a case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act at Azad Maidan police station.

Investigation Initiated

Upon realizing the theft, Vivek Dave immediately reported the incident to the authorities. A case has been registered at Azad Maidan police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. Investigations are underway to identify the culprit responsible for the theft.

Details of the Incident

According to the complaint, while Vivek Dave was playing cricket for three hours, unidentified thieves seized the opportunity to steal his credit and debit cards. Subsequently, they withdrew ₹1 lakh from an ATM and indulged in extravagant purchases totaling more than ₹5 lakh at four jewellery stores.

Efforts to Identify the Culprit

In a proactive move, Vivek Dave reached out to one of the jewellery stores where purchases were made using his card. The shop owner cooperated by providing CCTV footage of the suspect. Investigations are ongoing to trace and apprehend the accused involved in the theft.
