Mumbai: On Sunday, officials said that Mumbai was on high alert after the police received an unknown call on Saturday evening that warned of serial blasts in the city. The call was received on Saturday at nearly 6 pm, at the Mumbai Police Control Room.
According to the information, the caller claimed “There would be explosions in Mumbai” and cut the call. This comes as the city is preparing to hold New Year celebrations when people are expected to step out of their homes in large numbers.
In a statement, An official said,”Mumbai Police Control received a threat call on Saturday evening, around 6 pm. The caller claimed that there would be serial blasts in Mumbai before hanging up.”
All police stations and crime units were alerted, swinging the police into action. A spokesperson for the police said several checks were conducted following the call. However, nothing suspicious was found.
The police were trying to trace the caller. Intense searches were carried out at several key public places and installations across the city. However, no suspicious material or explosive devices were found.
Further investigation into the matter is underway. Meanwhile, considering the New Year celebrations, the Mumbai Police have tightened security across the city.
