Over 19 fatalities in last 24 hours due to heavy downpour in UP; Uttarakhand, Odisha on alert

Continuous heavy downpour from Sunday night in Uttar Pradesh claims 19 lives in last 24 hours. Power supply was disrupted at many places in UP and several houses and offices were submerged. Many people has to face severe waterlogging. The weather office has issued an alert for Uttarakhand and Odisha till September 14-15. Roof collapses, cases of drowning and deaths due to lightning were reported in parts of the state.

Lucknow: Continuous heavy downpour from Sunday night in Uttar Pradesh claims 19 lives in last 24 hours. Power supply was disrupted at many places in UP and several houses and offices were submerged. Many people has to face severe waterlogging. The weather office has issued an alert for Uttarakhand and Odisha till September 14-15. Roof collapses, cases of drowning and deaths due to lightning were reported in parts of the state.

Many districts of Uttar Pradesh are battling heavy rains, IMD has issued red alert for three districts which include Banda, Chitrakoot and Fatehpur districts.

As heavy downpour lashes parts of Uttar Pradesh, commuters are badly affected in Lucknow and Barabanki due to severe waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy downpours in many parts of the country till September 14.

Apart from Lucknow, heavy rains also occurred in Kanpur, Barabanki, Moradabad, Hardoi. According to the state disaster department, 19 people died in accidents related to rain and lightning in 24 hours. Meanwhile, Union Defense Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh spoke to the DM on phone to know the condition of the city.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy rain in 15 states of the country including Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal. There is rain alert in 31 districts of UP including Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur. At the same time, there is a warning of heavy rain in 22 districts including Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Rewa in Madhya Pradesh.

According to weather department, during the last 24 hours, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Coastal Karnataka, Interior Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep. Light to heavy rain at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, East Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, North Punjab, parts of Haryana, East Rajasthan, Odisha, Rest of North East India, Rayalaseema and East Gujarat.

Possibility of light rain and drizzle in Delhi. However, rain alert in 8 districts of Bihar in 24 hours and there is a possibility of rain in Himachal Pradesh in over next 10 days.
