In a heartening conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the 41 workers rescued from the Uttarakhand Silkyara tunnel after a demanding 17-day rescue operation led by the Centre, state governments, and other agencies.
The rescue operations in the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse are in progress, with vertical drilling being the primary focus. On the 16th day of operations, agencies are actively exploring various plans to ensure the safe rescue of the 41 trapped workers.
The DM said the road on which the accident unfolded had got damaged during the rainy season. It was built under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana and money was allocated earlier this month to the department concerned for repairing the road. However, the exact reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained, she added.
The arrest unfolded based on local intelligence and a tip-off. A collaborative effort between the Narcotics Cell and Police Station Badalpur led to the apprehension of two suspects.
After reaching the 41 trapped workers, an additional three hours may be required to extricate them individually. This marks the first time that authorities have provided a specific timeframe for the rescue efforts.
A cook involved in the effort expressed that this marks the first time a hot meal is being sent to the workers, providing them with both nourishment and comfort amid the challenging situation.
Amid the ongoing rescue efforts for workers trapped in the collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, accompanied by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, is set to conduct an on-site inspection today.
On November 12, a section of the tunnel collapsed, entailing a massive rescue operation. Teams from Thailand and Norway, renowned for their successful cave rescues, are actively participating in the ongoing efforts. Rescuers have drilled up to 24 meters into the debris, installing four pipes for the supply of food and oxygen to the trapped workers.
