Probe agency ED raids at TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh’s house again in West Bengal

Kolkata: On Wednesday morning, police said that the Enforcement Directorate team again conducted a raid at the residence of absconding Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh in Sandeshkhali in connection with its probe into the alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam in North 24 Parganas district.

Kolkata: On Wednesday morning, police said that the Enforcement Directorate team again conducted a raid at the residence of absconding Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh in Sandeshkhali in connection with its probe into the alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam in North 24 Parganas district.

This action taken by Nineteen days after an Enforcement Directorate team was assaulted by a mob. The central agency has been accompanied by heavy security forces, including one company of the CRPF. The Enforcement Directorate officer told media,”We will search Sheikh’s house today. We will also try to talk to the residents there”.

According to the information, they have arrived at residence of Shahjahan in more than 24 cars. Local police are also present for the raids to give assistance. The ED added that after entering the house, the Enforcement Directorate officers locked the gates from inside and started searches.

On January 5,Several members of the Enforcement Directorate were attacked by a mob in Sandeskhali, North 24 Parganas as they were en route to Shahjahan’s residence for raids. Three officers were injured in the attack. The district police and Sheikh’s family members had lodged a complaint against the Enforcement Directorate officers.

More than 200 local people surrounded the officers and the vehicles of the paramilitary forces accompanying them. The mob also vandalized the vehicles of the officers. So far four people have been arrested in this case. All of them were caught from Basirhat city of North 24 Parganas.

They were picked up after police scanned surveillance footage of the attack. Bengal Police had registered three FIRs related to the incident, one of which was based on a complaint by locals that Enforcement Directorate officials were creating unrest in the area. Later, the Calcutta High Court stayed the police investigation against the officials of the investigating agency till March 31.
