Punjab: A shocking incident unfolded near a checkpost along the Sutlej river in Punjab’s Jalandhar, where Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Surjit Singh of Punjab Police was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident. Surveillance cameras captured the harrowing 20-second footage, revealing the officer signaling a car to halt at the check post.
Despite ASI Surjit Singh’s attempts to signal the oncoming vehicle to stop, the car ignored the signal and collided with him, propelling the officer into the air upon impact. The alarming incident has sparked concerns about road safety and the need for stringent measures to protect law enforcement personnel on duty.
Following the collision, the driver of the vehicle hastily fled the scene, leaving ASI Surjit Singh critically injured. Station House Officer Sukhjit Singh confirmed that immediate actions were taken to locate the absconding driver. Subsequently, the car involved in the incident was located and impounded for further investigation.
After sustaining severe injuries from the impact, ASI Surjit Singh was rushed to a government hospital in Ludhiana for medical treatment. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the driver responsible for the hit-and-run, ensuring that justice is served for the injured officer.
