Muzaffarpur (Bihar): Tragedy struck at Muzaffarpur railway station on Monday as a constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), identified as Vinod Yadav, lost his life while attempting to control smoke emanating from an empty coach of a train. The incident occurred around 7 am when Yadav noticed smoke billowing from an empty coach of the Valsad-Muzaffarpur train.
According to Birendra Kumar, CPRO of East Central Railway, initial investigations suggest that Yadav promptly grabbed a fire extinguisher upon spotting the smoke. However, as he attempted to operate the extinguisher, it unexpectedly burst, causing severe injuries to Yadav. Despite immediate medical attention, Yadav succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Clarifying the nature of the incident, Kumar emphasized that it was not a fire but rather smoke emanating from the empty coach. He assured that authorities swiftly brought the situation under control, averting any potential escalation. The exact cause of the incident remains unknown, prompting authorities to initiate a thorough inquiry to ascertain the circumstances leading to Yadav’s tragic demise.
Amresh Kumar, IG-Rail, expressed deep regret over the incident, highlighting its tragic nature. He affirmed that a comprehensive inquiry would be conducted to unravel the exact cause of the mishap. All evidence collected from the scene has been dispatched for forensic examination to facilitate a meticulous investigation into the incident.
