In a significant counter-terrorism operation, Delhi Police arrested Riyaz Ahmed, a retired Army personnel and an alleged member of the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Ahmed is believed to be a key conspirator associated with a recently dismantled terror module by the Jammu & Kashmir Police in Kupwara.
Ahmed, along with associates Khursheed Ahmad Rather and Ghulam Sarwar Rather, was actively involved in a conspiracy to receive weapons and ammunition from handlers across the Line of Control (LoC). The Jammu and Kashmir Police had recently busted the LeT module operating in Kupwara, revealing plans for attacks in the region.
The arrest of Riyaz Ahmed took place at the New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday, February 4. The move follows closely on the heels of the Jammu and Kashmir Police operation, signaling coordinated efforts to neutralize potential threats posed by individuals linked to terrorist organizations.
Ahmed’s alleged involvement in the LeT conspiracy included coordinating with handlers in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to facilitate the receipt of arms and ammunition. The Delhi Police, in a statement, highlighted Ahmed’s active role as a retired army personnel in hatching a conspiracy for subversive activities in Jammu & Kashmir.
Prior to Ahmed’s arrest, the Jammu & Kashmir Police had successfully conducted an operation in Karnah, detaining five terrorist associates involved in smuggling arms and ammunition. Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, among those arrested, was found in possession of weapons and had connections with LeT handlers in PoK.
