Robert Vadra Posters Emerge in Amethi Amid Uncertainty Over Rahul Gandhi’s Candidacy

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the Congress’s choice for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, posters advocating for Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband, have emerged outside the local party office. The posters, proclaiming “Amethi ki janta kare pukar, Robert Vadra ab ki baar” (the people of Amethi want Robert Vadra this time), indicate a growing buzz around his potential candidacy.

The voting for Amethi is on May 20, and the last day to apply is May 3. While the BJP chose Smriti Irani, the current MP and Union Minister, as their candidate, the Congress hasn’t made their choice yet.

Amethi has been a stronghold for the Gandhis, with Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi representing it. But in 2019, Smriti Irani surprisingly won against Rahul Gandhi. Even though he’s running from Wayanad again this year, there’s talk he might also run from Amethi after the Wayanad vote.

Robert Vadra’s recent comments have added to the talk. He’s confident people in Amethi would support him if he ran, wanting change. After he spoke, posters backing his candidacy spread on social media.

Responding to this, Smriti Irani, who’s actively campaigning, criticized the delay in Congress picking their candidate and took jabs at Rahul Gandhi and Robert Vadra. She hinted Rahul Gandhi might want to secure his Amethi seat, comparing it to saving a seat with a handkerchief.

She also claimed Rahul Gandhi might try to divide people after April 26, following the Wayanad vote. She warned against stirring up caste divides and urged voters to stay vigilant.

The wait for the Congress candidate and Robert Vadra’s potential bid for Amethi have made the election there even more interesting, promising a closely watched contest.
