Samajwadi Party Announces Candidates for Rajya Sabha Elections in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has officially declared its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. Ramjilal Suman, Jaya Bachchan, and former IAS officer Alok Ranjan have been chosen as the party’s nominees for the prestigious seats. This move comes as the SP, with its increased strength in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, is now eligible to send three members to the Rajya Sabha.

Jaya Bachchan, an actor-turned-politician, is being nominated once again for the Rajya Sabha, while this marks the first-time nomination for Alok Ranjan.

The Samajwadi Party, currently holding 108 seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, has gained significant political leverage, allowing it to secure three Rajya Sabha seats. With the support of its INDIA bloc partner Congress, which holds two seats, the SP aims to secure the required 37 first preference votes for each candidate to secure their places in the Rajya Sabha.

Speaking on the choice of candidates, SP MLA Manoj Pandey highlighted that Ramjilal Suman represents the PDA (Picchde, Dalit, Alpasankhyak), while Jaya Bachchan comes from a renowned family in the country.

The Rajya Sabha elections for 56 seats across 15 states are scheduled for February 27, with the last date for filing nominations being February 15. The polling will take place on February 27, and the results will be announced on the same day.
